Book Club - Sarah Albanese here in
Williamsville, NY, shares some thoughts on coordinating a Book Club:
“I actually was passed the baton from another mom. As an avid reader I really wanted to see this group continue forward so I offered to take the lead. I made sure that the book club was advertised in the bulletin and spread the word among the moms in our group. Usually I have about 15-20 moms on the email list and somewhere from 5-10 women attend the meetings. We make the meetings fun by gathering at a local coffee shop and more recently at St. Greg's cafe. Some advice I would give would be to spread out the meetings (so that people have time to read the book) and make people feel welcome to come to the meetings even if they haven't finished the book. I also strive to pick a variety of books. I have found titles to read from a variety of sources. Some of the books were recommended by other moms, Catholic Radio (I love Teresa Tomeo's show), Catholic blogs and "Our Sunday Visitor." The discussion is the best part of the book club as well as the fellowship that is formed from these meetings.

Benefits:
ü Easy set-up
ü Women can learn and grow personally
throughout the week by reading at home and then have an opportunity to learn
from others through discussion at each meeting.
ü Group can continue to meet
indefinitely
ü Groups can meet and discuss with or
without children
Challenges:
ü Some moms may not be interested or able to commit
time to both reading at home.
ü Book clubs can get costly if members are buying a
lot of different books.
